"Once you know the truth, you are accountable to it."
I go about my daily life, tryna earn a living. I see brothers and sisters doing the same, some looking contented, others frustrated. Many go home to peace, *ish or straight to bed. Many disgruntled about the state of their lives. As I work on issues affecting people of Afrikan, I wonder how many of those people tie the current state of their life to our brutalities experienced throughout our history. We have been so brainwash to think strictly as individuals..."I am the only one going through it," "You can only be redeemed by your own efforts," "Race is no longer an issue!" What bull *ish have we been fed. Some of us have even taken on the identity of our oppressors. We act and behave like our oppressors. For some (ah! many) of us who have "arrived" we begin to call our people lazy, and blame them for the state of their lives.
We owe it to our ancestors to keep the fight going. We can't just sit back and enjoy the benefits, and not participate in the struggle for freedom! I am angry...I am sitting down listening to Imhotep Gary Byrd on 1190 AM in New York. And just when I begin to get comfortable, I am hearing stories on the ongoing oppression of our people. And as much as I am in the so-called middle class, I know I have to stay involved in the struggle for freedom and for our people to be recognized as respectable, dignified human beings.
I want to know that the future generation from my womb can walk wherever they want and not worry about getting 50 shots!
