(JAMPACT), the New York based NGO, announced it will host a benefit fashion show and after-party, Roots, Rockin’, Royal Affair: Fashion Runway & Party - Tribute to the Children of Jamaica, on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Marcus Hall, 219-15 Linden Blvd, Cambria Heights, Queens, starting at 11 p.m. The aim is to raise awareness and funds for its Adopt-A-School Program and the recently launched Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). TAP will assist eligible teachers and administrators from JAMPACT’s four adopted basic schools, who are in pursuit of higher education and professional development in the field of education. Roots, Rockin’, Royal Affair is slated to follow the legendary Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City (September 5-12). A host of talented Caribbean designers will showcase sampling from their Spring/Summer 2009 collections. The designers include Siren Swimwear & Accessories, Soft Lines, Chaconia Intimates, OSUN Designs, Riddim Driven Clothing Company and The Eye Collection Clothing Company. The event will be capped off with live music by popular radio personality DJ Chris the Dubbmaster of Irie Jam FM (93.5 FM). Runway appearances include Chaka Laguerre, Miss Jamaica USA 2007 and the event’s spokes model, Tina Ingram, Miss Jamaica World 2007 finalist. Ms. Ingram is thrilled to be a part of JAMPACT’s benefit fashion show. With a passion for community service, Ms. Ingram explained, “I am humbled that I would be asked to lend my face and talents to a worthy cause.” Ingram is an emerging new face in the modeling industry and is represented by the advertising/marketing agency Quantum Group with CEO Ru-El Burford. Self-defined reggae artist/songwriter Ky-Enie, well known for his singles “Wings of An Angel” from his current album ‘Then, Now, After…’ and “Rain” from the movie ‘Shottas,” joins Ms. Ingram in representing JAMPACT for the fashion show. Ky-Enie will also be performing at the event. Akelia Lawrence, JAMPACT’s President and the event coordinator is leaving no stones unturned in making sure this event is a thrilling success. “This show has been a labor of love,” said Ms. Lawrence, who admitted that the work is just getting started. JAMPACT’s immediate Past-President Kamar Samuels reflected, “this benefit fashion show falls in an historic moment, when we celebrate our ten year anniversary,” and he adds, “We continue to offer quality programs and by creating fundraising opportunities such as the fashion show furthers JAMPACT’s mission.” Proceeds from the event will go towards financing JAMPACT’s ongoing Adopt-A-School Program and the Tuition Assistance Program. JAMPACT'S PLANS FOR NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER, 2000

 JAMPACT ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREAT

As always, JAMPACT is excited and dedicated to hosting our Annual Christmas Treat for the students our Adopted Basic Schools in Kingston, Jamaica.

 

This year, we anticipate the event will be held on, or around, Friday, December 19th, 2008.

 

We invite our members to volunteer and participate in any way that they can. If any of you intend to be in Jamaica for the holiday period and would like to assist, please contact: membership@jampact.org.

 

Stay tuned for more information on the wonderful plans we have for this year's event. Updates regarding a finalized date and other event details will be announced in our e-updates and posted to our website.

JAMPACT SHOE BOX SCHOOL SUPPLY AND TOY DRIVE: NOVEMBER 2008

In the spirit of giving, please join JAMPACT as we make Christmas merry for the students at our adopted schools. Pack a shoe box with school supplies and a toy for boy or girl, ages 3 -5 and bring it to our general body meeting on November 19, 2008.  Be sure to put your name and contact info inside the box so we know who to thank for the donation.  Remember, all donations are tax deductible!

 

Please note that school supplies should be relevant to the basic school curriculum with items such as:

    * Coloring books

    * Crayons

    * Markers

    * Pencils

    * Sketch pads

    * Play dough

    * Paint and paint brushes

    * Age appropriate reading materials

    * Craft supplies.

    * Age appropriate toy
