I am quite sure there are many people out there who would prefer we all believe the bible and the god of the bible despite the evidence that it takes some serious audacity to do so. Well, there is one passage in the Bible that has always left me bewildered and is proof, at least in my mind, that some of these biblical writers were smoking mushrooms or drinking too much camel piss.

Ok, yeah, I blasphemed again. Anyway, here is the passage:

"Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while...Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth..." (Revelation 20:1-3, 7-8a)

Now I don't know about you, but what's up with this? Satan is supposedly going to be bound for 1,000 years and the earth enjoys a period where he is no threat, but AFTER the 1,000 years he is released again to wreak havoc? Are these the mysterious ways of god people keep telling me about or am I just being hard on the guy?

Ok, we know all kinds of people, saved and the unsaved alike struggle with the idea that Satan is only around because bible-god is responsible for him being here tearing up the place. Well what about this one. Capturing him (when all along god supposedly could have done this and saved the world ages of suffering and pain) and the releasing him.

I can believe this like I believe Bill Gates is my long lost daddy.

The Gnostics did NOT believe in the god of the bible, considering him evil, the creator of the devil and so forth. Can we say they were wrong when you think about it?
